Are you an Open or Youth exhibitor?

Youth

 Where are you located:

Brooklyn, Wisconsin

What is the name of your rabbitry/caviary?

K&J Rabbitry

Describe your rabbitry (how big/how many holes, in a barn/shed, etc)

We usually have around 40 rabbits. They live in our new garage which is known to us as the bunny barn. As Jenna gets older we may expand to 50.

What breeds do you currently raise?

Mini-Rex, Holland Lops, and Harlequins. We also have two Polish, and a Velveteen Lop and Jenna is now expanding with Jersey Woolies.

Which is your favorite breed, and why?

Kerry likes both Harlequins and Mini-Rex. She likes Harlequins for their personalities and markings and Mini-Rex for the fur texture and personalities. Jenna likes Holland Lops because they are so cute and Jersey Woolies because they are fuzzy.

How long have you been breeding rabbits/cavies?

We got our first rabbits about 4 years ago.

 How did you start out?

We got two pet bunnies and then wanted some pedigreed ones to show and then we wanted to breed some and then …..

Where did your foundation stock come from?

The Harlequins came from Reilly’s rabbits. The others came from different breeders.

Who has influenced you the most when you were a beginning breeder?  (did you have another breeder help you, did your parents encourage you, etc)

The Reilly family has been very helpful to us. We have made many other friends and everyone has always been very helpful and nice.

What is your breeding operation like (how often do you breed, what are you looking for in your stock, etc)

We breed very few litters. We always look for good temperament and breed type. Since we place our extra rabbits as pets temperament is very important.

Do you show your stock?  If so, which shows do you usually attend

We show at most shows within a three hour drive.

Do you have any stories to share about your rabbits/cavies?

One of the first times we bred a buck and doe Kerry played her viola for them. We also pronounced them married.

What is your greatest accomplishment as a breeder or exhibitor?

Winning Harlequin BOSB at Nationals in 2005.

Do you have any advice for beginners?

Buy good bunnies from people you can trust!
