Spring Break

Hi everyone, although I've been keeping up with new listings every few days, I have not had the time to announce them here in my blog this past week.

Sorry about that - I will get caught up and all new listings will be announced here soon, but we are on Spring Break here and our week is filled with activities that keep me away from my computer other than a bit of time early mornings (and then I've used that time to put new listings in....)

Happy Spring to everyone!

Taking a short break

This week is a particularly busy time for me - I have many personal obligations, plus some work to finish up for our recent Badger RBA show.

I will not be adding any new listings or pictures to our directory until probably Saturday or Sunday. Sorry folks!

New Breeder Listings added Mar 20, 2006

Four new breeder listings added to The Rabbit & Cavy Directory this morning, and a couple more waiting.

The first is Fame's Rabbitry owned by Autumn Santos from Gainesville Florida. Autumn raises Mini Lop rabbits along with a scattering of other breeds, some for pets. Her site has pictures and show information on it.

Kim Anderson owns Anderson Rabbitry in Missouri. She raises Mini Rex, Holland Lops and Lionhead rabbits in her Kansas City rabbitry. No website but her contact info is in our directory.

Tait Rabbitry is in Maryland and run by mom, Natha Tait and daughters Diana and Julia. They raise Polish, Mini Rex and Jersey Wooly rabbits. Again, no website but their contact info is in our directory.

Nikki Commons owns Nik's Rabbits near Green Bay, Wisconsin. She raises English Lops and Satins in the siamese variety. Visit her website for more info and pictures of her rabbits.

That's it for today..happy Monday to you all! : )

New Rabbit and Cavy Pictures in our Directory

This morning I spend a few hours putting some new pictures into our directory..finally.....

I have probably 100 emails or more, of pictures breeders have sent over this past fall and winter, and I was so busy with just the breeder listings that I didn't have time to work with the pictures.

Today I only put in a small sampling of rabbit and cavy pictures I've received, but are they nice ones! Check out our American Cavy page for new himi pics, our Rex page for a few new pictures, our Dutch and Dwarf Hotot pages, plus our Jersey Wooly page.

Pictures really take a huge amount of time to put in - the pictures in our directory are 250 pixels wide- I realize I am compromising loading times on the pages, but smaller pictures don't show the detail I want to see! Often people send me thumbnails or very small pictures - and they don't work because the pixels become distorted when I enlarge the photo to the 250 pixel size. Most pictures sent to me take a lot of work to crop, brighten, resize and such, then optimize to display on the web.

Speaking of loading times, my next project will be to break down all the alphabetic breeder listing pages into individual pages - instead of grouping letters A-E, for example, I'll have a separate page for each letter of the alphabet.

I haven't figured how I want to optimize the breed gallery pages yet, but yes, those pages I am sure, create loading problems for viewers still on dial-up, so I'll have to come up with a solution soon.

Well I hope you visit The Rabbit & Cavy Directory today to see our new pictures!

New Breeder Listing added Mar 16, 2006

Only one new breeder listing added today - Black Wolf Rabbitry is owned by Jessie Miller of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Jesse used to breed and show rabbits during her youth, and just recently got back into this hobby with her husband, Marc, and her two kids, Miranda and Melody.

Currently they raise French Lops and Holland Lops - you can find them at some of the Wisconsin shows this year.

Black Wolf Rabbitry does not have a website yet, but their contact info is listed in our directory.

New Breeder Listings added March 15, 2006!

This morning I added three new listings and spent a good amount of time updating listings with changes sent in by breeders.

Little Lickcreek Rabbitry is owned by Marlene and Candace Ferguson. Their Ohio rabbitry produces Californians, New Zealands, Silver Martens and Mini Rex. Visit their website for more info.

Glacial Ridge French Angoras also is an Alpaca and Mohair goat farm in Minnesota. Sandy Kunath raises French Angora rabbits and is involved with many wool and spinning activities.

The last review today is about Rair-Find Rabbitry. During yesterday's review, I mistakenly thought this breeder's listing was called Fair Find, so of course, I couldn't find the link to that name in our directory!

Rair-Find is a Californian rabbitry owned by Kathy Rairden, where she raises Mini Rex and Velveteen Lops. She has a nice website and also offers the Bunny Be-Calm bag for sale; this is a bag that allows one person to securely hold bunny for nail clipping or tattooing! Cool idea! She also sells secure coop ties.

That's all for today.....after I finish up all my responsibilities from our Badger RBA show this past weekend, I'll begin working on getting at least a few new breed pictures in each day!

Have a nice day everyone! : )

New Breeder Listings added March 14, 2006

Early this morning I added several new breeder listings to our directory.

The first is Spring Creek Gems, of Tennessee. Dennie Eckert raises Netherland Dwarf rabbits in her Greene County rabbitry and has a very interesting website! I started off by reading some of her rabbitry history; how she started out in Michigan with a stray chocolate bunny, and her progression to a full fledged rabbitry with her move to Tennessee a few years ago. Her website has many interesting pages related to her other hobbies; gardening, graphics works and more - a pleasure to visit!

Gone Cavy Caviary is located in California, where this 4-H family raises American and Teddy cavies. Their website has lots of pictures of nice looking cavies! They also sell some cute custom cavy charms (that was a mouthful!) - visit their site for more info!

In Florida, Linda Hoydilla runs Indian Hills Acres, a Cape Coral rabbitry where she raises Netherland Dwarf rabbits in various colors. Visit our directory for her contact info!

J -- J Rabbits is a Georgia rabbitry owned by Renee McBrayer. Along with her daughter, they raise Holland Lops, Netherland Dwarfs and the newly-recognized Mini Satin. Their rabbitry is located about 45 minutes west of Atlanta - visit their website for more info and pictures of their rabbits!

I had also added Fair-Find Rabbits, but I cannot find this new listing in my website, I'll have to check it when I get home tonight - I bet I forgot to upload the page with their listing info...I'll be back tommorrow with more reviews and announcements!

New Listings March 11, 2006

This morning I added several new rabbit and cavy breeder listings to our directory!

The first is Micah Crawford's website; Micah's Rabbits. His site is an offshoot of Highland View Rabbitry in southeast Minnesota. This youth exhibitor raises Flemish Giants in light gray and white, and just purchased his first Thrianta last fall. Visit Micah's Rabbits for more info!

Shannon Marcum owns a Californian Lionhead rabbitry named Shining Wizard Rabbitry and Farm. This newer family rabbitry is one of a very few rabbitries in the San Diego area raising Lionheads in tort, and other colors.

Way over on the other site of the US, in central Connecticut, Kristen Hay-Engebretson runs Tranquil Morning Farm. Kristen raises Mini Rex and Polish rabbits, and her website has lots of rabbit care info on it to!

Peg Flint owns a Del Rio, Texas Lionhead rabbitry named El Rey Lionheads. She has a lot of info on her foundation lines, plus pictures on her site, along with an interesting blog.

A few standard listings were also put in today: Bentwillow Bunnies is a Raleigh, North Carolina rabbitry raising Holland Lops, Netherland Dwarfs and Belgian Hares - no website, but contact is listed at our directory.

Joan Morrison owns Paradise Acres in Florida. Active in Little Rascals 4-H, Paradise Acres raises Dutch, Lionheads and Mini Rex rabbits.

There will be no updates or new breeder listings put into our directory until Monday or Tuesday - this weekend is our big show at Jefferson, Wisconsin and I work there...so no time for much else!

See you next week : )

Updates to The Rabbit & Cavy Directory

Here it is, almost mid-March already! A particularly busy time for me here...kids starting sports at school and lots of chores with the rabbits and horses, plus our big rabbit show is this coming weekend; The Badger RBA show at Jefferson, Wisconsin. I am part of this club and will working at the show so most likely I won't be updating our website much until next week.

I've added several new breeders since my last posting and due to lack of time, I will just tell you about a few, but please come browse our site to see all our new breeder listings!

Riverside Rabbit Ranch is owned by Kevin LeBlanc. This Louisianna rabbitry started in 2002 as a 4-H rabbit project for his daughters and blossomed from there. Currently they raise Mini Rex and Netherland Dwarf rabbits and attend shows in their area.

Stephan and Teri Reymann own Sonshine Rabbitry in California. French Lops, Holland Lops, Netherland Dwarfs and Thriantas are the rabbit breeds they raise. They also sent me a few nice pictures of the newly-recognized breed, the Thrianta, for my Breed Gallery! Sonshine Rabbitry has a very nice website and displays of their stock - it is quite obvious they've taken a lot of time with their rabbit pictures - nice pictures of awesome looking rabbits!

I have to mention a new listing for a fellow Wisconsin breeder; Crystal Krienke-Bonkoski owns Crystal Rabbitry in Ringle, Wisconsin. She has been raising Jersey Woolies and American Chinchillas since 1994. The American Chinchilla is on the endangered list at the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy and is listed as 'critical'. We need more breeders to raise this med-large rabbit breed! Crystal doesn't have a website but please visit our directory and contact Crystal Rabbitry for your new American Chinchilla rabbit!

Down South Rabitat is a Florida rabbitry owned by Danielle Capron. She raises Holland Lops and her site also has some rabbit care info on it! Good luck with your Holllands Danielle!

Margaret's Hairless Pigs Caviary is a North Hollywood, Californian caviary producing hairless guinea pigs for the past 7 years; Skinny Pigs and Baldwins, along with hairless cats! Margaret Majchrowicz's website is very interesting - she has background information and history on these rare cavy breeds along with some awesome pictures, she even sent one for our Breed Gallery-thanks Margaret!

Gary and Michelle Fuchs raise Lionhead rabbits in their New Jersey rabbitry, Golden Sunrise.
Nice website with a lot of Lionhead pictures in addition to tons of Pygmy Goat pics and info - their other project!

That's it for new breeder reviews. As I mentioned above, please visit our website to see all the new listings we've recently added; they are not all reviewed here today.

New Breeder Listings as of Mar 2, 2006

Sorry, I've been busy publishing and tweaking our LaReau Lops & Cavies website - please visit and let me know what you think of our newly-updated rabbit and cavy website!

As of today, I've added 4 new breeder listings to our directory!

The first, KC Rabbit Tree is a Corvallis, Oregon rabbitry raising Californians and Mini Rex. This mother-daughter team has been raising rabbits since 2000.

Mo-Better Rabbitry , owned by Maureen Grener, is a northwest Ohio rabbitry raising Netherland Dwarf rabbits - she has some nice pictures of her stock on her web pages.

Ken and Nicole Galanter own a New York caviary named Gallant Caviary, where they raise Teddies in roan, self and solids. No website listed but their full contact info is on our website.

Silent Springs Rabbitry is where Micheal Perez raises his Mini Lops in many colors. This youth breeder is in southern California and attends a lot of area rabbit shows. Nice website by Hoppin' Herd of Hares!

As our directory ages, I find myself spending a lot more time updating breeder's links and listing info - some email me with their changes and others I just find while checking listings.

If you have a listing in our directory, please keep me up-to-date with changes to your site's url and rabbitry or caviary info!

Off to do bunny chores........... have a great day!
